Aligning Your Logistic Strategies For The Upcoming RecoveryThursday, April 1, @ 6:45P Speaker: Mr. Brent Hudspeth, Transplace, Senior Director, Consulting The economic recession and its impact on the transportation and logistics industry shifted the focus by many enterprises away from multi-year outsourcing arrangements towards short-term tactical programs. While the third-party logistics industry continued to grow during the past 2.5 years, the mix of services offered by most 3PLs shifted. 3PLs experienced gains through spot-market oriented products, including brokerage services. Along the way, the economy facilitated a profound change in the balance of power in customer-transportation carrier contract negotiations. As demand plummeted, carriers aggressively reduced rates across every mode to secure loads for idled equipment, enabling customers to achieve significant reductions in contracted rates. Mr. Hudspeth will address how capacity arrangements will evolve as the economy begins to show signs of improvement. Moreover, he will touch on the role of customer-logistics provider relationships coming out of the recession, and how they can benefit each side going forward.
