Topic: Next Level Trucking: Autonomous truck platooning a game changer for fuel efficiency and safety

Speaker: Mike Lukuc; Texas Transportation Institute

Mike Lukuc (pronounced Lucas) is a Program Manager and Research Scientist for Connected and Automated Transportation at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI).  He has 28 years of automotive research and development experience, including 19 years of private sector experience at GM, Delphi and Mercedes Benz; 6 ½ years of Federal-level public sector experience at the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and 2 ½ years of State-level public sector experience at TTI.

Mr. Lukuc currently leads a number of large scale connected and automated technology research projects sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation, and the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partnership Vehicle to Infrastructure Consortium – a group of 10 automakers collaborating on precompetitive research. 

Lukuc is a member of TTI’s Connected and Automation Transportation strategy team.  He also serves on the SAE DSRC Technical Committee responsible for connected vehicle standards, the American Trucking Association’s Automated Driving and Platooning Task Force, and the IEEE Smart Cities working group.  He received his Mechanical Engineering degrees from University of Missouri – Rolla, currently known as the Missouri University of Science and Technology, was awarded the Society of Automotive Engineers 2014 Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems award.
